ARTE NOIR encourages artists who identify as Black, African American, or African to analyze and express their experiences of the Central District through a lens of criticality that explores the use of color, content, subject matter, visual elements, and symbolism, authentically narrating a visual love note that continues the legacy of the Central District from their personal, cultural, spiritual, economic, and political perspectives.

Each artwork will be seen and experienced as a portal, enriching and broadening the creative and cultural reflections for viewers about the legacy of the Central District, what can be learned, and why we celebrate!
